A simple request...

I ordered a Nook recently. I was saddened to find that it wouldn't ship until December 7th. I wrote the following email to William Lynch, head of Barnes And Noble.com...

Hello,

My name is Robbie Trencheny and today (11/02) is my 18th birthday.
Before I go any further I would like to let you know to feel free to
delete this email and proceed with your day.

A few days ago, you announced the nook, which from what I have seen so
far is going to turn out to be much much better then the Kindle but
that is beside the point.

I wanted a Kindle for my birthday until my father told me about the
nook. For a bit of background, I really enjoy reading and spend plenty
amounts of time reading books and magazines (and buying!) at my local
Barnes & Noble in Dublin, California. I said "But I want a Kindle!" to
which he replied, "At least go look before you make your final
decision". I proceeded to go directly to your comparison page. I was
aghast as I compared the Kindle and the Nook and immediately changed
my mind and confidentially told him "All right I will have a nook
instead". (Quick side note, the number 1 reason I switched to getting
a nook that fast was because the nook is the first e-book reader to
run Android as its platform. I am a technologist at heart and know
that Android is extremely popular. I think that simply picking Android
over anything else could singlehandedly put you ahead of the Kindle
but I am no market researcher). I read on the site that they wouldn't
be released/shipped until November 30th. I understand this completely.

However,
Upon getting the order receipt, I was saddened to find that my nook
wasn't even expected to ship until December 7th, 2009. I had even
gotten expedited 1-3 day shipping just to have it that much faster.

So now, my simple request.

If there is anyway possible I would ask that I could *maybe* just
possibly receive my nook on or at least closer to November 30th. Of
course the best option would be to get it as soon as possible before
the 30th but I don't have my hopes up on the request. :)

As I said in the start of the email please feel free to write me off
as a beggar and delete this email as soon as you see it! I can wait
but I don't want to if I don't have to.

In conclusion,
If it is at all possible can you please send my nook earlier then
expected ship date or even before launch date? I am most eager to
start reading! Finally, I thank you for your time and the wonderful
company that is Barnes and Noble and am looking forward to getting my
nook soon(ish)!

Robbie Trencheny

This morning I woke up to find a email in my inbox from William J. Lynch.

Mr. Trencheny.

Thank you for your email and for your order of Nook.  Thank you most of all for being a reader and a frequenter of Barnes and Noble stores.

Demand for Nook has exceeded our expectations and we are taking orders on a first come first served basis.  Having said that, I appreciate your contacting me and for considering Nook over competitive products.  So we will do whatever we can to move up your order time.  I can't commit to an exact ship date as we are finalizing those now, but I will commit to move your order up.

Beverly Walker Dabreau runs all of our customer care and I will hand this off to her.

Thanks again and keep reading!

Sending email to CEO's and having a nice tone DOES work! I can't wait to get my nook!!!
